This one was unlike anything else in the portfolio. Elimar is a painting believed to be by Vincent van Gogh — and the subject of a four-year authentication process by LMI Group, a company applying computational science to the historically subjective field of art attribution.
OddCommon built proprietary software to analyse the six painted letters in the work's enigmatic signature, comparing them across up to twelve measurement points against verified van Gogh examples. We contributed motion and animation — translating a complex technical methodology into something legible and compelling for audiences who weren't data scientists. Design in service of art history.
